He has lived and worked in 5 countries and travelled to 65 others. He has called Ward 2 in Oakville home for the last 24 years and raised his 3 children here. He has also owned and operated a number of educational businesses, including Century Childcare (now Tanglewood), a highly respected Montessori pre-school and daycare, and the Sylvan Learning Centre in Oakville and four nearby communities. Over 18 years these businesses served the academic needs of thousands of local children and employed dozens of teaching staff.

In 2021, Desmond established Resurgo Consulting, using his extensive business ownership, finance and management experience to advise and support other entrepreneurs. He has a long, verifiable track record of community service and leadership in Oakville as an active member of Rotary for 20+ years, a charity fundraiser, a youth mentor and a local soccer coach. He is also the founder and primary volunteer for Make A Great Pass Canada, a local nonprofit that has collected, sorted and packed 350,000+ items of new and used soccer gear for children and teens in 35+ developing countries since 2012. He was recognized with a Town of Oakville Community Spirit Award in 2022.
